405 GR - it was never imported to Japan.
I guess it has petrol 1.6L engine, is it correct?

It may also owe to the problem of the audio unit itself.
I don't know what kind of stereo unit come with European version of 405s,
but most Japan version 405s comes with SONY stereo unit, which often
has problems :(

You may not be able to read Japanese, but one of the member here
Yoshiike-san (who owns 1993 Mi16) has an excellent site,
full of detailed picts of 405s - all picts captures his DIY repairs.
